FOTD - Rock chick make-up

I'm afraid there's no OOTD this week as I have a stinking cold so for the last few days I've been lounging about in my pyjamas feeling sorry for myself.

I do, however, have a FOTD.

As somebody who has been listening to rock music since about 1994, I feel suitably qualified to call this a rock chick look. For me, the traditional rock chick make-up (mostly worn by models who like rock stars rather than rock music) isn't representative of the gorgeous ladies I see at gigs and the like. Rock is about drama, and a smudge of black eye liner with a nude lip gets an "E" for effort, in my opinion.

This is the kind of look I would wear to a gig.I also tried to get out of my comfort zone a bit by using green on my eyes but you can't really pick this up in the photo. Before anybody says it, I know that cardigans aren't very rock n roll, but even rock chicks need a day off, right?

The headband is from Primark and cost £2.50.

Primark backcombing brush

I have been on the lookout for a backcombing brush for some time now. I borrowed one from another MUA when I was working on a student film aaaaaaages ago and have been lusting after one for myself ever since.
As luck should have it, I was in Primark on the hunt for slippers (I’m hurtling towards middle age, OK?) at the beginning of this week and I came across this wee beauty. My eyes lit up and when I saw the measly £1 price tag, I knew it had to be mine.
I’ll be honest, I didn’t have great hopes for this brush but I was willing to take a chance because it was so cheap. Funnily enough, I love it! It’s brilliant for creating tons of volume and smoothing down the top layers of your hair after backcombing is a piece of cake.
I much prefer this to the pin tail comb I had been using and I wholeheartedly recommend this to those of you who live your life by the saying “The higher the hair, the closer to God”.

FOTD dump

Just a quick post to show you a couple of recent FOTD's. I'm afraid I can't remember the products used as both these looks were the product of late night boredom.

Bare with me as I catch up on comments and e-mails, and excuse my bitch face in the second look!

Just a quick life update......

Hello, my lovelies!

I just wanted to drop in very quickly and apologise for the lack of posts over the last week or so, and for not responding to your comments yet..........

You need not worry, I've just been taking a bit of time to look after myself and sort through a few things. We're also preparing for a visit from my mum and dad this weekend so we've been busy sorting out the flat.

Rest assured, normal services will resume shortly, but please know that I genuinely appreciate each and every person who leaves a comment or follows my blog.

Hope y'all have a great week + weekend!

A bright FOTD - Sugarpill and Geek chic cosmetics

Last night, I felt the urge to put all the Sugarpill on mah face. I've been favouring more muted make-up looks recently and I felt the need to inject some colour back into my life.

I love every single Sugarpill product I own, and if I want to feel bright and sparkly, I tend to reach for one of their pressed or loose shadows.

If you're in the UK, you can purchase Sugarpill from love make-up and cocktail cosmetics.

I must also comment on my lipstick which can be purchased here. This is the first time I've used my little pwny from Geek chic and I'm absolutely in love with it! The colour is really unusual but still flattering and the formula is incredibly moisturising.

FATshion Friday - OOTD

Today's outfit features not only my epic badunkadunk, but also lots of clothes I bought aaaaages ago that are no longer available in the shops, thus possibly causing much frustration. Don't hate, on either of those counts.....

Keep reading for more pictures and a breakdown.....

Recent Empties

I’m jumping on the bandwagon because I really love empties posts and videos. You know the drill, so let’s get stuck in!

Naked rescue intensive care Shampoo and Conditioner
I will be posting a thorough review of these products soon as they have become HG for me. SLS free shampoo is much kinder to my chemically treated hair and I have noticed a massive difference in the longevity of my colour since starting to use the shampoo. The conditioner is beautiful too and it treats my tresses to some TLC but without all the silicones. On top of all that, these products smell yummy!
Repurchase? I already have!

Etat Pur Zinc Gluconate
This is part of the pure actives range available from Etat Pur. Zinc Gluconate is supposed to address spots, blemishes and rebalance sebum secretion. I purchased this because I suffer with a lot of hormonal acne on my chin and this stuff has sorted my face right out. My chin area used to be very congested and often very spotty. Using this twice a day for a few weeks has done wonders for my skin. After about 3 weeks of using it I found that I didn’t need to apply it every day, only when I felt like I might be about to break out again. The real beauty of this product, however, is that it didn’t cause any irritation whatsoever on my sensitive skin.
Repurchase? Yes! I think I’ll always want to have a bottle of this on hand in future!

Aquolina Pink Sugar EDT
A very lovely lady in the states picked up a bottle of this for me as it can be quite hard to source for a reasonable price in the UK. It's a shame, because this is one of my favourite scents, and certainly my favourite non indie scent. It is nauseatingly sweet but with a very subtle tartness that prevents it from being headache inducing. This is definitely not a grown up, empowered scent, but it's lovely nonetheless.
Repurchase? Yes, if I can get my hands on some for a decent price.

Original Source Vanilla and Raspberry shower gel
I do love Original Source products and this shower gel was pleasant enough but the scent (which smells very much like milkshake) wasn't anything special and I didn't feel like it did anything that a supermarket own brand shower gel couldn't do.
Repurchase? No.

Bath and BodyWorks Vanilla Berry Sorbet Pocket Bac
I like to keep a mini hand sanitiser in my handbag at all times, and B+BW pocket bacs are my sanitiser of choice. I find many berry scents to be a bit too acidic so I was quite surprised by how much I fell in love with this. Again, these can be quite hard to get hold of in the UK and the prices on ebay are ridiculous, BUT if you have a friend in the US I recommend you ask if they could pick a few up for you.
Repurchase? Yep, always!

Balance Me Rose Otto Intensive lip balm
I have a slight obsession with Rose scented products of late, so when I saw this was a magazine freebie a couple of months ago, I snapped it up! This smells delicious and the balm did a decent job of keeping my lips hydrated, but I've recently discovered Carmex (I know, I'm VERY late to the party) and I feel that it does a far better job at a fraction of the price.

FATshion Friday - A very pink OOTD

Happy Friday, my lovelies!

I hope that you're all gearing up for a fun weekend......

Unfortunately, we couldn't get a full length picture of this outfit in which I wasn't scowling, but you get to see my beautiful winter coat and my fabulous purple lip.

The coat is from Very - if you plan on purchasing this I would definitely recommend sizing up as it's a tight fit.

The dress is from Tesco but was purchased at the beginning of the year - sorry.

My glorious purple pout is courtesy of OCC Beladonna lip tar. I am absolutely obsessed with it and if you love purple lips you really need to get your hands on this pronto!

On the rest of my face I'm wearing my usual Revlon colourstay/Illamasqua rich liquid foundation mix, Illamasqua Morale blush, Sugarpill flamepoint on my eyebrows, MUA pearl eye shadow (01) and a quick flick of Eyeko purple liquid liner.

Oh, and here is a picture of my lovely new bag which I bought from Primark last week. It's quite large, but that suits me fine as I carry all sorts of crap about with me.

That's all for now!

FATshion Fridays - OOTD and FOTD!

Welcome to a new feature on my blog - FATshion Fridays. Every Friday, I will be posting something to do with fat fashion, be it an outfit of the day, my tips on shopping for clothes for fatties, profiles of other fat bloggers or anything else which comes to mind. Without further delay, here is my very first OOTD.....

Dress - Primark
Cardigan - Primark
Trainers - Primark
Leggings - La Redoute
Bag - Matalan

Yesterday, my husband and I went for a walk in the park near to where we live. It was a picturesque Autumn day and I wanted to wear something bright and fun.

I know that almost everybody in the world owns this Primark dog dress, but I adore it and I have worn it so many times since buying it. It's fun without being over the top and it fits beautifully. I often have difficulty with dresses because of the proportions of my body but this is perfect.

I've been wearing a lot of vampy lip colours recently and yesterday was no exception. This lipstick is by Accessorize and the colour is "Passionate".

Keep reading for a list of products used......

My top ten nail polishes of the moment - featuring Barry M, Illamasqua, Essie and more!

I am not a nail blogger and I do not profess to know an awful lot about nails or nail polish, but I do enjoy painting my nails. As with all beauty products, I am a fickle creature and can change my mind in a matter of moments, but here are my top ten favourite polishes at the moment……

Recent purchases - Primark, MUA cosmetics, Revlon etc

It seems a trifle odd to begin a post detailing my recent purchases by telling you that I have been attempting to spend less, but I really have! Nonetheless, I’ve picked up some bits and bobs over the last few weeks so I thought you might fancy a nosey……….

Hairstyle and colour collage - my hair over the last 3.5 years

I thought it would be fun to show you all the different things I've done to my hair over the last few years, so here you go!
The images aren't in any order as the collage looked more fun all mixed up! If you would like to know the dye I used in any of these pictures, just leave me a comment.

I hope that you have all had a relaxing weekend :)

I'm back and I'm married!!!

It feels rather odd returning to my blog after such a long break, but god, it feels good! As I'm sure you gathered, life became incredibly busy and the added stresses of planning a wedding and studying for an MA meant that blogging had to take a back seat. I never expected to be away for quite so long, but I feel rested and excited to share my make-up related musings with you once more.

As you can probably tell from the title of this post, I am now a married woman. Hubby and I got hitched on the 28th of April and we couldn't have wished for a more perfect day. The weather was quite frankly, horrendous, but I was so loved up and happy that I hardly noticed. I won't bore you with all the details or lots of photos, but here is one of my favourites from the big day......... In other news, I have lots of plans for this blog. Over the coming weeks and months I will be working to improve the overall look of notamakeupsnob and attempting to make it a bit more user friendly in terms of tags etc.

If you have any suggestions as to features etc that you would like me to add, please let me know :) I have lots of posts lined up for the coming week, so here is a hint at what you can expect.....

*An in depth review of Make-up geek eyeshadows
*My hair "journey" and reviews of some of the products I swear by
*LOTS of FOTD posts
*Reviews of Femme Fatale cosmetics, Geek chic and Beauty from the earth
*Best of British budget buys

All that and a whole lot more! I'm also planning a few more serious posts to address issues such as homophobia, transphobia and body shaming within the beauty blogging community. In summary, I will be dedicating far more time and energy to my blog than I ever have before and I'm really looking forward to re-engaging with my wonderful readers.

Oh, and for those of you with a bit of money burning a hole in your pocket, I'll be posting a blog sale on Sunday, so keep your eyes peeled.

Thanks again for sticking with me, and here's to a very sparkly future!

FOTD dump + (a very late) Happy New Year from notamakeupsnob!

Hello!

Goodness me,it's been a very long time since I posted! For that, I apologise. The weeks building up to Christmas were extremely stressful - various family members became ill (my grandma was diagnosed with cancer and had to have a hysterectomy a couple of days before Christmas)and I had a tricky assignment to finish for my MA (I managed to achieve a distinction, go me!). All this on top of the usual stresses that come with that time of the year. Mr notamakeupsnob and I usually spend Christmas day together, just us, and then visit our families for a few days after. This year, we went up to Yorkshire on the 21st, and stayed for 8 days before driving down to the midlands to visit the Mr's folks. Whilst I did enjoy spending time with my family (and the Mr's, to a point!)it was a very stressful Christmas.

How was your Christmas? Did you do anything exciting to celebrate the start of 2012? I am unashamed to say that I was tucked up in bed by about half ten :P

I have lots of hopes for 2012, but I am most excited about getting married. The big day is the 28th of April, and I am so excited to make a commitment to my soul-mate. I plan on maybe doing a few wedding themed posts..........would any of you be interested in that kind of stuff?

I also hope to post much more frequently in 2012, although I'll probably wind up posting in fits and bursts, like I always do!

Please let me know if you have any requests for future posts, especially if there is a particular look you would like to see me recreate :)

Right, I will leave you with some FOTD pics Mr notamakeupsnob found lurking on his computer yesterday. I'm afraid I can't remember the products I used for any of these, but here they are all the same............
